In 1138 the first written work of King Arthur was written by Geoffrey of Monmouth. This was the starting point in the evolution of the Arthurian Legend. In this early version of the legend Arthur was a British king who defeated the Saxons and established a kingdom over the British Isle, Iceland, Norway and Gaul.
